We are a network of residents and students dedicated to working on local issues that will make Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, and North Georgia a safer, more hospitable environment for all of us. We work on local projects that foster a stronger, more self-sufficient, and more self-sustaining community — one that functions for the benefit of everyone, not just a privileged few. We are a solidarity network that helps local residents channel their collective power to resolve problems in their workplace, with their landlord, or the government. We confront and oppose structural oppression and discrimination in our community and aim to create safe spaces for oppressed groups and share the stories of the regular working-class people, past and present, who have made Dahlonega and Lumpkin County what they are today.
We believe that working people (which includes students, persons who can’t work because of physical or mental disability, the unemployed, and domestic workers) are best suited to decide how our community should work and how to go about making that happen. We focus on direct action rather than relying on politicians or the government to take care of things for us. We take pride in our community and have faith in our neighbors to become the protagonists of the stories we pass down to the generations that follow ours.
